The Naval Spectacle

“The Naval Spectacle" deals with the entertaining teaching of the presence of U.S. nuclear submarines and military bases from the safety of a ferry, and the act of becoming detached from reality as the photos of the warships taken become memories On August 19, 2022, the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan returned to Yokosuka from San Diego, California. At Coaska Bayside Stores, the only shopping mall in Yokosuka, a ticket counter for the "Yokosuka Military Port Tour" was set up in the food court, where all tour participants could see the aircraft until the aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan departed for Busan, Korea, at the end of September. I also participated in the tour and took photographs, which I am using as material for this report.

横須賀における唯一のショッピングモールCoaska Bayside Storesでは、フードコートの中に「よこすか軍港めぐり」という船上ツアーのチケットカウンターが設置されている。空母ロナルド・レーガンが9月末に韓国・釜山へ出航するまでの間、このツアー参加者は誰でも原子力空母をツアーで目にすることができた。「The Naval Spectacle」は、安全なフェリーの上から愉快な解説と共にクルーズを楽しむというエンターテイメントや、撮影された軍艦の写真が思い出と化することによって、より現実から離れていくという現象を、ポラロイドやスマートフォン、スキャナーといったさまざまな機械を用いたイメージ制作を行うことで試みている。
